Natalie’s finances explained urgency.
She and Mom wanted to refinance the house.
Again.
A proposed application had been denied because Linda’s income was insufficient and the home-equity line already high.
Then a draft appeared among guardianship files.
REQUEST FOR BENEFICIARY HOUSING SUPPORT.
If Linda were guardian, the trust could theoretically consider paying Sophie’s reasonable share of housing.
Draft request:
$2,850 per month.
Plus home modifications and family support.
Annual:
More than $50,000.
The house would become a trust-supported residence.
Natalie’s kids would still live there.
Mom would keep it.
Natalie would avoid rent.
Sophie’s money would stabilize everyone.
I stared.
“This is why they said she had to earn her place.”
Rebecca shook her head.
“Careful.”
“What?”
“The phrase may reflect their family beliefs independently. Don’t flatten every cruel act into a financial strategy.”
She was right.
Mom genuinely believed children should work.
Natalie genuinely resented me.
Connor and Madison genuinely copied adults.
