Chapter 18 - JULIAN AS A FATHER
Julian saw Elodie for the first time at ten weeks old.
Supervised family center.
I did not attend the room.
A professional did.
I waited nearby.
Elodie slept through half the visit.
Julian cried.
The supervisor’s report said he handled her appropriately.
Asked about feeding.
Changed a diaper after instruction.
No inappropriate comments.
Good.
I was relieved.
Then guilty for being relieved.
Maya Chen, my therapist, said:
“You are allowed to want your child’s father to be safe with her.”
Yes.
Julian requested weekly supervised visits.
Granted.
He did not use them to send me messages.
That mattered.
Then one visit report noted:
Father told child, “Daddy is fixing everything.”
She was three months old.
Not harmful by itself.
Still.
Fixing.
I wondered what he believed that meant.
His federal lawyers were negotiating possible plea terms.
Rumor said he might cooperate against Victoria.
I refused to ask him.
