Chapter 8 - THE COURTROOM CHRISTMAS VIDEO

Robert played the edited Christmas video in family court.
He described my smashing the monkey as proof that anger controlled me around Josephine.
I did not deny the act.
“I should have carried my daughter out without breaking anything.”
His lawyer seemed disappointed.
Denial would have helped him more.
Mara presented the full video recovered from Silas’s phone.
Robert’s insult.
Josephine’s question.
Silas confronting him.
My warning.
The judge did not treat humiliation as legal permission to destroy property. She also did not accept Robert’s claim that the clip proved I was an unsafe father.
Clara’s guardianship request was denied pending investigation.
Josephine remained with me.
A neutral guardian ad litem was appointed to examine the disputed shares.
Robert’s legal attack failed.
His financial one continued.
He terminated a trust paying property taxes on the small house Anna left Josephine. The house entered delinquency notices before Mara obtained a temporary order.
The trust account contained less money than expected.
Seven years of withdrawals were labeled education and maintenance.
Josephine attended public school.
The property had few repairs.
Payments led to a consulting company controlled by Margaret.
She said Robert handled the invoices.
Robert said Margaret handled family trusts.
Each began moving blame.
Then the hospital fragment comparison produced a stronger result.
Microscopic stress marks matched photographs from Anna’s laboratory notebook.
The defect was real.
The company had known enough to test it.
Regulators issued a recall of the monkey line.
Cole Heritage’s lenders froze new credit.
Employees were sent home from one factory.
Robert told them Bennett’s vendetta had caused the shutdown.
A group gathered outside my apartment carrying signs.
SAVE OUR JOBS.
STOP USING A CHILD FOR REVENGE.
Josephine saw them through the blinds.
“Are they mad at me?”
“No.”
“My name is on TV.”
“They are angry and scared. Adults told them the wrong target.”
That answer did not make the shouting quieter.
That night, someone threw a brick through the apartment window.
Taped around it was a copy of Anna’s share buyback.

Across my signature, someone had written:
