Chapter 26 - THE DISCHARGE FORM

Years later, Liesl found a copy of the forged discharge form in her archive.
She was thirty-eight.
“Why did you keep this?”
“Legal records.”
“Can I destroy it?”
“Check retention requirements.”
She rolled her eyes.
Always rules.
Eventually counsel confirmed the original evidence was preserved elsewhere and her personal copy could go.
She shredded it.
Not ceremonially.
Office shredder.
Twenty seconds.
Paper strips.
Done.
Then she showed me a legitimate discharge form from Micah’s recent urgent-care visit.
Her signature.
Doctor signature.
Instructions.
“Look.”
“What?”
“Boring paperwork.”
I smiled.
May you like
“Best kind.”
Exactly.
