Chapter 24 - BEATRICE USES MY WORST FACTS

Before the vote resumed, Beatrice spoke through video.

She did not plead emotion.

She used evidence.

“Enzo struck Renata.”

True.

“He froze operating accounts.”

True.

“He used company security during a family dispute.”

Partly true.

“He has become reactive.”

True sometimes.

Then:

“The board should not reward guilt by allowing him to redesign the company around his private redemption.”

Good argument.

I hated that.

Alan asked me:

“Response?”

I could have attacked her child case.

Instead:

“She is right that governance reform should not be about my redemption.”

Then:

“That is why the special committee, not I, drafted it.”

Good.

Then:

“Do you support independent chair even if the board later removes you as CEO?”

Harder.

I looked around.

“Yes.”

There.

If I only supported checks that protected my job, they were not checks.

Then Beatrice:

“You would surrender your father’s seat.”

I looked at the camera.

“No.”

She waited.

“I would surrender a chair.”

Silence.

May you like

“It was never Dad.”

That was the moment the seat became furniture again.
