Chapter 21 - DOMINIC MEETS HIS GRANDMOTHER ON PAPER
Vivienne sent Dominic a letter through her attorney.
The protective order allowed proposed communication only if reviewed by us and his therapist.
We read it first.
My dear Dominic,
You saw adults behave badly.
Good.
Then:
Your grandmother was trying to protect the future of our family.
Bad.
Then:
Someday you will understand that blood creates obligations.
Worse.
Dr. Moss stopped.
“This should not go to him.”
Agreed.
Vivienne’s lawyer was informed.
No punishment.
No dramatic contempt.
Just boundary.
Then she sent a second letter weeks later.
Shorter.
I frightened you.
I interfered with your brother’s bracelet.
I had no right to do that.
Your father and mother decide where the babies belong.
I am sorry.
Better.
Dominic chose to hear it.
Dr. Moss read it aloud.
Dominic asked:
“Does she still think blood?”
Probably.
I said:
“I don’t know.”
Then:
“Do I have to answer?”
“No.”
He folded the letter.
“Good.”
