Chapter 11 - The Police Report

Police reviewed the laundry-room incident.

Constance:

Intentional shove into closet.

Locked door.

Child crying.

No physical injury from confinement.

Winslet:

One slap.

No serious injury.

Reid:

Evidence he had previously directed use of bolt and bedding.

Potential child-endangerment concern.

Prosecutor did not charge kidnapping.

No.

No secret imprisonment.

No hours-long confinement.

No dangerous environment.

They considered misdemeanor unlawful restraint/child endangerment.

Constance faced a charge first.

Reid remained under review.

Then CPS.

Investigator Karen Lowe.

Findings later.

For now:

Safety plan.

Perry with me.

Reid supervised contact temporarily.

Constance no contact.

I hated supervised visits because Perry hated them.

“Daddy not bad.”

I said:

“Daddy made unsafe choices.”

“Can he come home?”

“Not right now.”

“Because closet?”

“Partly.”

“Because custody?”

He knew the word now.

I wished he didn’t.

“Yes.”

Then:

“Was I too loud?”

My heart broke.

“No.”

“Daddy said.”

“Daddy was wrong to make your place in the house depend on being quiet.”

Perry hugged his dinosaur.

Then:

“Dinosaurs loud.”

“Extremely.”

May you like

Good.

We had somewhere to start.
