Chapter 20 - VANCE MERIDIAN WITHOUT ARTHUR

The company entered governance reform.

Independent chair.

New CFO.

Related-party committee.

No family-office administrator signing for spouses.

No collateral acceptance without direct verification.

Mercer Trust converted part of its debt position into minority equity under a negotiated restructuring.

Did that make me owner of Vance Meridian?

Indirectly, my trust held a minority stake.

I did not become CEO.

I did not take Arthur’s office.

I did not want it.

Professional managers ran the company.

Some assets sold.

A luxury development in Nevada.

Two private aircraft.

An underused resort parcel.

Debt reduced.

North Crest contracts rebid.

Some retained at lower pricing because it actually did useful work.

Vance Meridian survived.

Hundreds of employees kept jobs.

Expansion slowed.

No fairy tale where removing corrupt leadership automatically creates profit.

Markets still existed.

My trust diversified over years.

Vance exposure fell.

I returned to forensic consulting part-time when Evelyn was eighteen months.

Different firm.

Reduced travel.

Not because motherhood erased ambition.

Because I wanted both and needed a structure that respected reality.

The first case back involved a hospital construction bond.

Boring.

Beautifully boring.
