Chapter 20 - THE APOLOGY KERENSA DIDN’T HEAR

Meliora requested permission to write Kerensa.
The child therapist reviewed.
At six:
No.
Too soon.
Meliora wrote anyway to the therapist, not directly.
The letter stayed sealed.
Months later Maya summarized the content to me.
No excuses.
Good.
Meliora admitted:
She used Kerensa’s desire to please adults.
She told her Daddy would be proud.
She continued recording after refusals.
She treated tears as usable footage.
She cut her hair in anger.
She mocked her appearance.
She understood the clipper retaliation from me did not excuse anything.
Then one sentence:
I told myself I was building something for us when I was actually building something that needed Kerensa to cooperate.
That sounded true.
Was Meliora redeemed?
Not my decision.
Change is not a verdict.
She completed probation.
Worked with no minors.
Juniper House pivoted to adult home-design content.
Smaller.
Legitimate.
She never regained her previous subscriber numbers.
That was consequence.
At seven, Kerensa asked:
“Does Meliora still make videos?”
“Yes.”
“Kids?”
“No.”
“Why?”
“Because she isn’t allowed to use you, and she decided not to work with other kids.”
Kerensa thought.
May you like
“Good.”
No more.
