Chapter 22 - THATCHER AFTER HIS FATHER
Thatcher finished diversion.
Misdemeanor case dismissed per terms.
No record erasure immediately; later eligible according to law.
He stayed in counseling.
Left Kensington management role.
He owned 8%.
Kept shares.
Worked at an architecture firm.
No family office.
His choice.
Lenora asked:
“Did I drive him away?”
“No.”
“He lost his inheritance path.”
“He chose a job.”
She smiled.
That was new.
Thatcher later apologized to her formally.
“I knew Dad hit you and treated your staying as consent.”
Lenora cried.
“What did you think I should do?”
“Leave.”
“Why didn’t you help?”
“I thought helping meant choosing sides.”
She nodded.
“And now?”
“Not helping was a side.”
That repair mattered.
They became closer slowly.
No instant mother-son reunion.
He had to tolerate her anger.
She had to stop protecting him from consequences.
Then he asked me through email:
I hope someday what happened to us is not the only thing you remember about me.
I did not respond.
