Chapter 21 - LENORA’S FIRST APARTMENT

Lenora bought a condominium.
Smaller than penthouse.
Still beautiful.
Her money.
Her title.
No Sterling.
She struggled with ordinary things.
“What security system should I use?”
“Ask installer.”
“What if Sterling gets code?”
“He won’t.”
“How do I know?”
Because years of control make ordinary locks feel imaginary.
She slept with bedroom chair against door for months.
Therapy helped.
No magical liberation.
Then she invited me for dinner.
Burned salmon.
We laughed.
She said:
“I don’t know how to cook for two.”
“Who’s two?”
“You.”
I smiled.
Then:
“Don’t make me your replacement daughter.”
She stopped.
“That sounded harsh.”
“No. It’s fair.”
She had lost emotional center.
Could attach to me.
I loved her.
Still needed boundary.
“We can be family without me becoming responsible for healing you.”
She nodded.
May you like
Good.
Relationships after abuse need edges too.
