Chapter 26 - BODIE’S DAUGHTER

Bodie became a father at thirty-four.

His daughter, Maeve, loved snow.

Of course.

At four she begged to go outside in pajamas during the first snowfall.

Bodie laughed.

“No.”

“Why?”

“Because clothes.”

“I have clothes.”

“Those are dinosaur pajamas.”

“Warm.”

“No.”

She pouted.

He helped her into:

Snow pants.

Boots.

Coat.

Hat.

Gloves.

Then opened the door.

Maeve ran into the snow.

Bodie stood watching.

I saw his face change.

Only briefly.

“You okay?”

“Yes.”

“You sure?”

He smiled.

“I get to open the door.”

There.

No therapy speech needed.

Later Maeve came in.

“Hot cocoa?”

“Yes.”

“Because I was good?”

Bodie shook his head.

“Because you’re cold.”

May you like

Simple.

Generational repair tastes like cocoa.
