Chapter 23 - GLORIANA’S DEATH

Gloriana died at eighty-four.
Stroke complications.
No mystery.
No poison.
No last secret bank vault.
Her estate paid remaining restitution first.
Lawful assets distributed afterward.
She left Tirzah:
Pearl earrings.
Silas’s fountain pen.
A letter.
Tirzah kept the pen.
Sold the pearls and donated proceeds to a childhood food-security organization.
Not because every object needed redemption.
Because she wanted to.
The letter said:
I spent years believing authority proved I was necessary. When your existence ended my temporary role, I experienced your growth as my erasure.
Then:
You were five. I was sixty-four. Only one of us was responsible for understanding the difference.
Tirzah cried.
Kept the letter for six months.
May you like
Then shredded it.
Paper becomes paper.
