Chapter 22 - TIRZAH MEETS GLORIANA

Tirzah was twenty-one when she requested one meeting.
Neutral office.
Mediator.
I waited elsewhere.
Her choice.
Afterward she told me.
First question:
“Why the sink?”
Gloriana answered:
“Because I wanted you to associate resistance with discomfort.”
Tirzah stared.
“At five?”
“Yes.”
“Why food?”
“Because it worked faster.”
Ugly.
Honest.
“Did you love me?”
“Yes.”
“More than control?”
Gloriana cried.
“Not in the way I acted.”
Good answer.
“Did Dad tell you to do it?”
“No.”
“Did he know?”
“No.”
“Did he ignore things?”
“Yes.”
Tirzah nodded.
Correct size.
Then:
“Did you think I took Grandpa’s twenty-four percent?”
“I acted like you did.”
“But?”
“He designed my authority to end.”
“Say it.”
Gloriana looked at her.
“You took nothing from me.”
There.
The sentence Tirzah needed.
Meeting lasted thirty-one minutes.
No hug.
Gloriana asked:
“Can I see you again?”
Tirzah said:
“Maybe.”
She never scheduled another.
