Chapter 25 - BRENDA’S WEDDING RECEIPTS

The original receipt folder came back to me decades later.

The litigation was over.

Evidence copies preserved.

Originals no longer needed.

I opened it.

Venue deposit.

Flowers.

Catering.

Champagne.

My account number.

For years, that folder felt like the moment my marriage ended.

It wasn’t.

The marriage had been damaged long before.

The folder simply gave me evidence.

I asked Leo whether he wanted it.

“No.”

“Are you sure?”

“Why would I want wedding receipts?”

Excellent question.

I shredded the personal copies after confirming archives had certified records.

No bonfire.

No framed artifact.

Paper became paper.

Cedar House remained.

Brenda eventually remarried at forty-five.

Small courthouse ceremony.

She invited me.

I declined.

No hostility.

We were not close.

Leo attended the reception for an hour.

He ate cake.

Nothing happened.

That mattered.
