Chapter 15 - ETHAN PLEADS GUILTY
Ethan pleaded guilty to:
Felony domestic assault under the applicable pattern statute.
Unauthorized use of my electronic signature.
False statement related to financial consent.
Medical impersonation-related conduct.
Unlawful surveillance.
Evidence manipulation connected to the successor-representative package.
He did not plead to stealing my trust.
He never did.
He did not plead to permanent guardianship fraud.
No such petition was filed.
The judge separated conduct carefully.
“Did Emily authorize your use of her electronic signature?”
“No.”
“Did she ask for independent legal review?”
“Yes.”
“Did you proceed anyway?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“I believed she would eventually agree.”
“Was that authorization?”
“No.”
Then domestic violence.
“Did you strike your wife on multiple occasions?”
“Yes.”
“Did you tell her to characterize injuries as accidents?”
“Yes.”
“Did you know hidden cameras captured some of her reactions?”
“Yes.”
“Did you supply selected clips omitting your preceding conduct?”
“Yes.”
Then:
“Did your mother order you to assault Emily?”
“No.”
Important.
“Did she know assaults occurred?”
“Yes.”
“Did she help conceal them?”
“Yes.”
Then migraine night.
“Did you give Emily medication prescribed to you?”
“Yes.”
“Did you fully explain what it was?”
“No.”
“Did you attempt to obtain her signature after she was heavily sedated?”
“Yes.”
My eyes closed.
Not because I needed proof.
Because hearing him say it removed the last place denial could hide.
Then Ethan asked to add something.
His attorney looked surprised.
The judge allowed.
“Emily was not unstable.”
The room went still.
“I made her look unstable.”
My throat closed.
“I hurt her and then used her reaction to what I did.”
The judge said:
“Your allocution is noted.”
No applause.
No redemption.
Truth.
After hearing, Dad walked beside me.
“I want to hit him less.”
I looked at him.
“Therapy works.”
“Apparently.”
Then Rachel’s phone rang.
Margaret’s plea agreement had been finalized.
