Chapter 12 - THE BIRTH PLAN
Dr. Lee recommended scheduling my C-section at thirty-eight weeks because of rising blood pressure and the baby’s position.
We chose a hospital outside the Vance Meridian network.
Only four people knew the date.
The following morning, Eleanor’s attorney referenced it in court.
Someone inside the medical system had leaked it.
The hospital opened an internal investigation.
A scheduler had accessed my file after receiving a call from New Dawn Maternal Care.
The caller used my correct insurance identification and secret patient alias.
That information existed only in a sealed court filing and Sebastian’s email.
His account showed no breach.
Rachel’s case-management portal had been accessed through a temporary paralegal login.
The paralegal denied sharing credentials.
Computer logs showed remote entry from an airport lounge.
Michael had used the same lounge network days earlier.
He was still inside the country.
Police traced his financial cards to a hotel near the Canadian border.
By the time officers arrived, he was gone.
Inside the room, they found copies of my birth plan and a printed route from the hospital to the postpartum apartment Eleanor had rented.
The plan was active even after court orders.
A note in Michael’s handwriting read:
If E cannot act, M signs at birth.
E meant Eleanor.
M could mean Michael.
Or matriarch.
The police increased hospital protection.
Sebastian wanted private armed guards.
I refused anyone employed by Vance companies.
We hired an independent firm selected by the court.
The decision offended him for five minutes.
Then he understood.
Trust needed separation from family systems, including his.
The competency hearing occurred before delivery.
Dr. Crane testified that he had never examined me and that Eleanor misrepresented his draft as a diagnosis.
My own evaluator found trauma symptoms, anxiety, and anger—but no psychosis or incapacity.
Sebastian’s evaluator found emotional impulsivity and long-standing enmeshment with his mother, but no legal incompetence.
The judge denied Eleanor’s petition.
She had not yet been charged with the luncheon abuse because prosecutors continued gathering evidence.
The civil court could still remove her from trust authority.
It did.
Samuel’s appointment became permanent pending trial.
Then Camille Reed disappeared from work.
Unlike Michael, she left her phone and purse.
Security footage showed her entering a Vance Meridian parking garage.
She never exited on camera.
Police found her inside a locked records room twelve hours later.
She was alive, dehydrated, and terrified.
The door could only be locked from the outside.
