Graham became someone I could trust again.
Not as husband.
As Kipling’s father.
That difference took years.
He worked for Greenway Commercial Landscapes.
Started in operations.
Later regional director.
No family distribution tied to performance.
No mother calling board members.
No inherited office.
He was happier.
He remarried when Kipling was fourteen.
Her name was Leah Morrison.
A physical therapist.
I liked her immediately, which felt rude.
Kipling liked her slowly.
Good.

He called her Leah.
At sixteen he asked if she could attend his robotics competition.
I said:
“Ask her.”
She came.

“I wish I had understood sooner that saying no to Mom wouldn’t make me stop existing.”
