Chapter 22 - LILY WATCHES THE TEA VIDEO

Lily was eighteen when she asked to watch the complete breakfast-room recording.

The hidden phone clip and security footage had remained sealed through appeals.

A therapist, Claire, and I joined her.

The video began with Nora carrying the tray.

Lily watched her younger self enter from the hallway.

She was so small that the table reached her shoulders.

She heard Victor’s message playing through Nora’s earpiece.

She saw herself sprint.

“Daddy, don’t drink the tea!”

The cup flew.

Nora slapped her.

Lily paused the video.

“I remember the floor being colder.”

Claire moved closer but did not touch her without asking.

“Can I hold your hand?”

Lily nodded.

We continued.

I asked, “What did you call me?”

The locket opened.

My face changed.

Lily stared at the screen.

“You believed me then.”

“Yes.”

“Because of the picture?”

“And the mark.”

“Not because I said Daddy.”

The question contained years.

“I believed something enormous had happened. I still needed evidence to understand it. But I believed you were terrified and trying to protect me immediately.”

She considered that.

“Okay.”

The video showed Nora reaching for the phone.

My security lock.

Police arrival.

No poison entering my body.

No second slap.

The crisis ended before the plan completed.

Afterward, Lily watched the hidden phone recording of Claire’s room.

Victor’s voice.

Claire’s warning.

The message about Rose.

She stopped before the audio where Victor threatened permanent separation.

“I don’t need all of it.”

“No.”

She requested one authenticated copy remain in the family legal archive.

The government retained its evidence copy.

We destroyed our casual duplicate.

No documentary received footage.

Several producers had offered millions.

Lily refused.

“My face saving Dad is not public property.”

The answer ended discussion.

At dinner, I poured tea.

Lily looked at the cup.

For years, no one served tea in our family home.

Claire had reintroduced it slowly.

Sealed leaves.

Shared preparation.

Clear teapot.

No rituals required forever.

Lily accepted a cup.

“What kind?”

“Earl Grey.”

She smelled it.

“Too much bergamot.”

Claire smiled.

“Your father likes it that way.”

May you like

Lily added milk.

Tea became taste again.
