Chapter 18 - CELESTE’S FINANCIAL CASE

The financial prosecution focused narrowly.

The property sale.

False fiduciary certifications.

Suppressed descendant-transition notice.

Forged placement documents were tried separately but coordinated in sentencing.

Celeste’s defense:

She believed temporary stewardship permitted broad discretion.

Some trust language supported discretion.

Not self-dealing without disclosure.

The prosecution showed emails:

Need the second property moved before descendant branch wakes.

Another:

Once first grandchild arrives, outside fiduciary will reopen the rehab sale.

Another:

If Arden remains household parent, she will question everything.

That last one mattered.

I was not targeted merely because Celeste wanted Camille to have a child.

I was targeted because she believed I would use my direct-notice rights.

Correctly.

The jury convicted Celeste of:

False fiduciary certification.

Fraud tied to the undervalued property transaction.

Forgery-related document charges.

They acquitted on one broad theft count alleging the entire $9.8 million transaction was criminal because the company did receive a real asset payment and valuation evidence varied.

Correct.

Civil restitution addressed undervaluation and excess rent.

No claim she “stole $24 million.”

Her lawful assets remained.

No total confiscation.

Permanent fiduciary ban.

No trust stewardship again.

That consequence broke her more than prison.

Power was the thing she had mistaken for identity.
