Chapter 15 - THE HANDWRITING
The forensic handwriting report was devastating.
The forged Arden signature matched Celeste’s known handwriting across multiple characteristics.
Not because she successfully imitated me.
Because she barely tried.
She wrote my name as though authority mattered more than resemblance.
The capital A matched her personal notes.
The final n matched her letters.
Pressure patterns consistent.
Digital metadata from the document file showed edits made on Celeste’s laptop.
Then Camille.
Did she forge anything?
No evidence she wrote my signature.
Did she know the signature was false?
Messages suggested yes.
CAMILLE:
That doesn’t look like Arden’s signature.
CELESTE:
Close enough for draft.
CAMILLE:
What if someone checks?
CELESTE:
By then she will have signed the final.
There.
Camille knew.
Not that the forged draft would necessarily be submitted as final.
But she knew false paperwork was being created to pressure me toward the final version.
Then another message after I refused to discuss placement:
CAMILLE:
I’m scared she’ll never agree.
CELESTE:
Stop thinking like permission is the first step.
That became prosecution evidence.
Charges against Celeste:
Forgery.
Attempted use of forged legal documents.
Fraudulent representation in connection with family placement planning.
Obstruction tied to beneficiary notice.
Not kidnapping.
No one had physically taken Margot.
Charges against Camille:
Attempted fraudulent representation.
Participation in false administrative submissions.
Conspiracy narrowed to specific document conduct.
No forgery count without proof she forged.
Specific.
Then one more twist.
The notary block on the forged packet had a stamp.
A real notary.
Had the notary colluded?
No.
She had notarized Celeste’s own signature on a different page.
Celeste later copied the stamp image into the Arden packet.
Digital fabrication.
The notary became a witness, not a conspirator.
