Chapter 7 - THE STORY ABOUT MY TEMPER

Vespera’s lawyer filed opposition to the protective order.

They attached screenshots of me.

Not fabricated.

Real.

One:

ME TO VESPERA:

If you tell me one more time how I should feed this baby, I will lose my mind.

Another:

If you walk into delivery without permission, I will have security drag you out.

Another:

I swear you make me so angry I could scream.

None made me violent.

But they supported:

Arianell has temper conflict with Vespera.

Then one family dinner.

Vespera claimed I shoved a chair.

I had.

An empty chair.

After she sat in my seat despite me asking her to move? Not relevant. Better: I pushed an empty dining chair back abruptly and it hit wall. Immature. No person hurt.

Oswin remembered.

I admitted.

Then:

Vespera said I once threw a glass.

I had dropped it in sink hard enough to break during argument.

Not thrown at anyone.

Still ugly.

Then her lawyer argued:

“Mrs. Hale had reason to believe Arianell might escalate.”

Maybe.

What she did not have was authority to manufacture a placement.

Then my own message to a friend:

If Vespera tries to take over my baby, I might actually kill her.

Figure of speech.

Terrible in litigation.

I had sent it two months earlier.

How did Vespera get it?

I posted? No, friend forwarded? That would be odd. Better I accidentally sent in family group? No. Let's avoid extraneous privacy drama.

We had enough.

Then the hospital footage.

I never touched Vespera.

She touched the chair.

Both hands.

Intentional.

No argument.

Then:

“Do that again and I’ll tell everyone she attacked me first.”

That sentence undermined her defense.

Why say “first” if she believed I had already attacked?

She meant:

I will create a false sequence.

Then her lawyer argued:

She was speaking to Oswin after his slap, threatening to claim Arianell was initial aggressor based on prior verbal confrontation.

Possible.

Still.

Then another text from Vespera to Calista three days before:

If she explodes at the hospital, do not intervene. Staff need to see her without Oswin smoothing it over.

There.

Then:

CALISTA:

Stop trying to make her explode.

VESPERA:

I’m not making her anything.

Good.

No explicit staging yet.

Then another:

VESPERA:

She is already unstable. Truth just needs witnesses.

That was powerful.

But was Vespera clinically judging?

No basis.

No therapist.

No diagnosis.

Then my obstetric records.

Anxiety noted?

Normal pregnancy anxiety.

No psychiatric instability.

No violence.

Then Maya? We can give Arianell a therapist? Maybe not necessary. She had prenatal counselor after stress. No need.

Then Vespera claimed I had prenatal depression.

My obstetrician testified in a declaration:

Arianell reported ordinary anxiety and sleep difficulty. No diagnosis of psychosis or inability to parent. No recommendation for alternate newborn caregiver.

Simple.

Then the hospital social worker Dana confirmed:

Vespera repeatedly raised emotional instability without clinical documentation.

Staff did not accept her characterization.

Then I realized something.

Vespera was not trying to convince doctors I was sick enough to lose rights.

That bar was too high.

She was trying to create enough doubt that everyone would hesitate.

Enough hesitation creates space.

Calista ready.

Nursery ready.

Packet ready.

Family saying:

Maybe just for a few weeks.

Maybe while Arianell rests.

Maybe while Oswin handles her.

Then temporary becomes harder to reverse emotionally.

Not necessarily legally.

That was the strategy emerging.

Not kidnapping.

Pressure through confusion.

Exactly the kind of plan a family can call help while ignoring consent.
