Chapter 21 - MY DIVORCE

Daniel and I tried reconciliation counseling.

For four months.

Not because anyone told me to save the marriage.

Because I needed to know whether the part of him that failed Lily could change.

He did many things right.

Accepted supervised parenting.

Did not blame me for protective orders.

Stopped contact with Margaret while Lily’s case remained active.

Read every trust document himself.

Started individual therapy.

Then one session, I asked:

“If there had been no chain, would you have told me about the paternity challenge?”

He went silent.

“No.”

“Why?”

“I thought I could manage Mom.”

“There.”

That answer ended us.

Not dramatically.

No affair.

No second assault.

I simply understood.

Daniel still believed secrecy could be kind if motive was peace.

Maybe he would unlearn it.

I did not want to remain married while he tried.

I filed.

He cried.

I cried.

Lily asked if divorce happened because of Grandma.

I said:

“Grandma’s choices showed us problems Dad and I already had.”

May you like

Daniel agreed.

No child had to carry grandmother as the woman who single-handedly destroyed marriage.
