Chapter 10 - LILY’S INTERVIEW

I did not attend Lily’s forensic interview.
I hated that.
It was right.
A trained specialist asked.
Not me.
Not Daniel.
Not Margaret.
Lily disclosed that Margaret had called her “not real” before.
Several times.
At five:
“You have Claire’s face. Thank God.”
At six:
“Maybe one day we’ll know where you really came from.”
At seven:
“When Evan gets his Whitmore account, don’t be jealous.”
Lily had asked Daniel what that meant.
He said:
“Grandma talks nonsense.”
She asked:
“Am I your real daughter?”
He answered:
“Always.”
Good.
Then failed to stop the person who kept making her ask.
Lily told the interviewer that on the party day, Daniel said:
“Stay outside with Grandma until you both calm down.”
Margaret later produced the chain.
Lily yelled through the glass.
Two children saw.
One told Jessica.
Jessica brought water.
Mark saw.
Daniel never came back outside before I arrived.
Why?
A call from his employer.
He was inside the home office.
Could have checked.
Didn’t.
That distinction mattered.
He did not knowingly leave her chained.
He knowingly left her with someone unsafe and prioritized a call over confirming what “timeout” had become.

Family court would weigh that differently.
So would I.
