Lenora knew she could not legally remove Elsie from my family.
She knew adoption made Elsie my child.
She knew my estate plan named Elsie directly.
She knew Avery Industrial Holdings had no “blood purity” rule.
She knew the Cultural Foundation had no hereditary chair.
So she built something softer.
Expectation.
Her plan was to make Gideon appear inevitable.

Not steal Elsie’s property.

Donor breakfast.

Dominic has no biological issue.
Gideon is the continuing line.
Then, over time, Lenora believed practical outcomes would follow.
Gideon invited to more donor meetings.
Gideon placed on foundation committees.
Gideon considered for vice chair.
Gideon presented at family-business events.
Elsie categorized privately as:
Dominic’s adopted daughter.
Loved, perhaps.
But outside the legacy structure.
One email made the intent unmistakable.
LENORA:
Once people see the photograph, the question answers itself.
GIDEON:
What question?
LENORA:
Who comes after Dominic.
GIDEON:
Nothing legally comes after Dominic through me.
LENORA:
Law follows expectations more often than lawyers admit.
Gideon replied:
That’s not really how law works.
He knew.
