The courtroom watched the foyer footage twice.
No audio.
Serena entered with Ethan.
She placed him on the floor.
He resisted.
She dragged him.
He fell.
She continued.
Then I ran in.
She kicked me and pressed her heel into my abdomen.
Victor entered.
Serena changed posture and pointed at me.
The absence of sound made the transformation more visible.
The defense argued Serena believed Ethan was choking and attempted to move him toward the front doors for help.
Dr. Feld explained the injury pattern.
“Dragging a child by one arm is not an accepted emergency response.”
The defense said panic creates imperfect decisions.
The prewritten report undermined panic.
Digital experts authenticated its creation before the injury.
The camera command showed intentional shutdown.
Serena’s phone restored recording only after Victor arrived.
Claire testified about the plan.
Her cooperation agreement appeared before the jury.
“You helped forge documents,” Serena’s attorney said.
“Yes.”
“You helped order the bracelet.”
“Yes.”
“You hope for a lighter sentence.”
“Yes.”
“So you blame Ms. Montigue.”
“I am describing what we did.”
Independent records supported her.
Dr. Wells testified under his plea.
Nora described the bath burn and coercion.
Rebecca described the first bracelet accusation.
The defense called both women disgruntled former employees.
Their separate experiences, years apart, showed method.
I testified last among the household witnesses.
The prosecutor asked why I ran barefoot.
“I heard Ethan scream.”
“Did you attack him?”
“No.”
“Did Serena kick you?”
“Yes.”
“Did she call you a lowly maid?”
“Yes.”
“Did she say Ethan needed discipline?”
“Yes.”
On cross-examination, the attorney emphasized my settlement and education fund.
“You received significant money after accusing Ms. Montigue.”
“I received compensation after evidence confirmed household failures.”
“You now study child development because this case gave you opportunity.”
“Yes.”
“You benefit.”
“I would rather Ethan had never been injured.”
He asked whether I loved Victor.
The question surprised me.
“I care about him as Ethan’s father and as someone whose failures affected us.”
“Are you romantically interested?”
“No.”
The attorney wanted jealousy as motive.
There was none.
Victor and I did not need romance to make loyalty legible.
He asked whether I wanted Serena removed from the house.
“After she hurt Ethan, yes.”
“Before?”
“I wanted her to stop overriding medical concerns.”
“That is not the question.”
“No. I did not plan to replace her.”
The prosecutor introduced the clonazepam evidence through laboratory witnesses and pharmacy records.
The defense argued accidental ingestion.
Claire testified Serena crushed part of a tablet into yogurt before bringing Ethan downstairs.
She had not seen him swallow it.
The bowl was never recovered.
Nora remembered washing a yogurt dish under Serena’s instruction.
The sedative charge relied on combined evidence.
Then the trust amendment entered for motive.
The jury heard the fifty-one-percent clause, guardianship transfer, and death provision.
The prosecution did not claim Serena intended murder.
It argued she created escalating danger to seize legal and corporate control.
Serena took the stand.
She said the plan was Claire’s.
She said Dr. Wells manipulated her.
She said Victor’s grief made him neglectful.
She said I formed an inappropriate bond with Ethan.
She admitted dragging him.
“I lost control.”
“Why write the report first?” the prosecutor asked.
“I feared Lily would attack him.”
“Before she entered the foyer?”
“I knew her temperament.”
“Why disable the camera?”
“To protect Ethan.”
“Why restore it when Victor arrived?”
“I wanted proof.”
“Proof beginning after your violence?”
Serena stopped.
The prosecutor asked why she ordered the emergency bracelet.
“Preparation.”
“For guardianship you claim you never planned?”
Another silence.
The jury deliberated for four days.
On the third night, Victor received a message from an unknown account.
Withdraw trust reform, or Ethan’s nursery files go public.
Someone still possessed private footage from before the house security overhaul.
