Chapter 25 - SNOWMERE AGAIN

Lily returned to Snowmere at twenty-six.

Her choice.

A preservation board meeting.

Not therapy assignment.

I did not go.

Too old for mountain roads.

She called afterward.

“It’s smaller.”

“It is not.”

“It feels smaller.”

That I understood.

She walked onto the porch.

The bench was gone.

Replaced years earlier.

She stood where I found her.

No breakdown.

No dramatic speech.

Cold air.

Boots.

Coat.

Gloves.

She stayed three minutes.

Then went inside because coffee was ready.

Later she told me:

“I thought I would feel like something happened.”

“Something did.”

“I know. I mean now.”

“What did you feel?”

“Cold.”

May you like

Good.

The past had become history instead of weather.
