We stayed married.

No chairmanship.
He read every page.
Obnoxiously.
At fifty-eight he still asked Naomi questions about footnotes.
She threatened retirement.
We laughed.
Marriage became ordinary.
That was the victory.
Arguments about vacations.
Thermostat.
His watch collection.
My habit of buying plants and forgetting watering schedules.
No trust deadline.
No forged consent.
