Chapter 10 - HE NEEDED MY SIGNATURE AFTER THE BOARD FIRED HIM

The answer came from timestamps.

At 9:12 that morning, the independent board committee informed Berenger they would meet without him at ten-thirty.

At 9:28, Berenger texted Leandra:

They’re going to remove me unless I secure the collateral plan.

At 9:31:

If Ianthe signs, lender keeps facility alive independently.

At 9:34, Leandra replied:

Then get it signed today.

There.

Not:

Ask.

Get.

At 10:05, I tried to leave.

At 10:30, Berenger told me my keys were in the pit.

At 10:52, the board voted to remove him.

At 10:57, company systems disabled his executive authority.

At 11:02, Berenger received the formal notice.

At 11:06, he texted Leandra:

They did it.

At 11:07:

Ianthe signs now or we lose leverage.

At 11:09, Leandra:

Do not let her call Gideon.

My normal phone was already in Berenger’s office.

At 11:14, another wheelbarrow load went into the pit.

No camera showed the exact second.

But my emergency phone log and Dad’s tracking data placed the sequence.

Then the financial truth.

The lender facility was not a Vale Precision corporate loan.

It was Berenger’s personal executive investment facility.

Without his CEO position, the lender could reduce or cancel availability under its terms.

My signed assignment would have made the package stronger.

He needed it more after removal.

That was why he escalated.

Not because my signature could restore him as CEO.

Not because he could take my shares without me.

Because once the board removed him, he feared losing the personal financing that would let him buy additional equity later or maintain financial leverage.

Then a draft personal note recovered from his own produced documents:

If Vale pushes me out, secure Ianthe distributions before Gideon convinces her to cut me off.

My distributions.

My separate shares.

He thought marriage gave him a claim to the cash flow.

It didn’t automatically.

Then another:

House account stays restricted until she understands consequences.

There.

Home food control and corporate consent were directly connected.

The board removed Berenger because he misused executive authority and company resources in pursuit of a personal financing plan involving property he did not control.

The garden escalation happened because he lost the office that morning and became desperate to obtain the consent anyway.

No hidden billions.

No grand conspiracy.

A man who had spent years confusing authority at work with authority at home suddenly lost one and tried to tighten the other.

That was the central secret.

And Leandra knew enough to help.
