Ryan eventually changed his plea in the state case.
The video.
Photographs.
My medical records.
Linda’s statements.
His own messages.
Too much.
He admitted:
Repeated domestic assault.
Coercive control.
Knowingly injuring me while pregnant.
Attempting to force financial signatures through intimidation.
Specific statutes varied by jurisdiction.
The plea was structured around provable offenses.
He did not admit intending to harm Rebecca.
Evidence did not show that.
He admitted he knew violence could endanger pregnancy.
Enough.
My victim statement was not about money first.
“I spent five months measuring clothing by whether it covered bruises.”
Ryan stared down.
“I stopped calling my father because I was ashamed that he would know.”
Then:
“My husband photographed injuries he caused and labeled them evidence that I was unstable.”
I breathed.
“That changed how I understood abuse. He did not only hurt my body. He tried to become the narrator of what the injuries meant.”
Then Linda.
“I was told every bruise proved I was clumsy. Every objection proved I was emotional. Every no proved I lacked judgment.”
I looked at the judge.
“I do not ask you to exaggerate what Ryan intended. I ask you to sentence what he actually did.”
Ryan received a substantial custodial sentence on state charges, to coordinate later with any federal sentence as law allowed.
Domestic-violence treatment.
No contact.
Restitution for certain medical costs.
Weapons prohibition.
Family court retained authority over future parental contact.
No automatic termination.
