Patricia completed part of her sentence and eventually qualified for supervised release due to age, health, and statutory rules.
She moved into an apartment.
Not the family estate.
Not Daniel’s home.
No fiduciary role.
No access to Mia without Mia’s consent.
Mia was twenty-four.
Patricia requested one mediated meeting.
Mia said no.
At twenty-seven, she said yes.
I did not attend.
Daniel did not.
Maya’s successor facilitated.
Mia later told us only what she wanted.
First question:
“Why five hours?”
Patricia answered:
“Because every hour made it harder for me to admit the first hour was wrong.”
That was one of the truest things she ever said.
Mia asked:
“Did you think I would die?”
“No.”
“Did you think I was scared?”
“Yes.”
“And you left me?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“I wanted the key and the box more than I wanted to stop being the person who could control the situation.”
Mia nodded.
No forgiveness.
No hug.
The meeting lasted twenty-six minutes.
She never scheduled another.
Patricia died several years later after a stroke.
Mia attended the funeral.
Not because reconciliation had happened.
