Chapter 9 - THE FOLDER LEO HID

Claire recognized the paper.

Three days before my injury, I told her I had found irregularities in medical equipment shipments and wanted an independent review.

I refused to email details because Marcus controlled company cybersecurity.

I planned to deliver a blue folder.

The folder never reached her.

Leo remembered seeing it in my office.

After the ambulance took me away, Marcus searched the desk. Leo removed the folder and hid it inside a box of old school projects.

Police recovered the box under warrant.

The folder was gone.

Someone had searched it first.

A single carbon page remained stuck beneath cardboard.

It listed container numbers, hospital purchase orders, and Dock 14.

The numbers led to shipments handled by a subsidiary Victoria secretly controlled.

The manifests described approved infusion pumps and monitoring equipment.

Customs records showed different weights.

Investigators still did not know whether the discrepancy represented theft, substitution, or ordinary documentation error.

The emergency authorization’s missing page was found in Marcus’s home office shredder.

Technicians reconstructed part of it.

The text granted temporary power over company shares, banking, and pending transactions if I became medically unable to object.

One line remained incomplete:

Authority includes final consent regarding the disposition of—

The remainder was destroyed.

Marcus argued the text came from a legitimate continuity agreement.

The signature page was mine.

My earlier carelessness complicated everything.

Then Leo’s hidden phone yielded a deleted nine-second recording.

Victoria’s voice said:

“The shipment clears Friday. Once the sale closes, no one will care which serial numbers were real.”

Marcus answered:

“Valerie already copied them.”

A third voice asked:

“Then why is she still alive?”

The clip ended.

The third voice belonged to someone at Dock 14.

And Friday was the next morning.
