Chapter 23 - RUTH WAS NOT A SAINT

Fletcher read Ruth Sutton’s archives at twenty-five.
He expected wisdom.
Found a person.
Ruth was brilliant.
Controlling.
Funny.
Vindictive in one business dispute.
Generous with employees.
Harsh with adult children.
No saint.
She had used money to force responsibility too.
The difference:
She wrote safeguards against her own family tendencies.
One letter:
If my descendants eventually need less protection from one another, reduce my vote. Dead people should not run companies forever.
Fletcher laughed.
“Okay, I like her.”
Another:
Never use food to teach a child financial obedience. Adults have enough other ways to be ridiculous.
I cried reading that.
Ruth had not predicted Lenora.
She had recognized human behavior.
Fletcher donated copies of selected governance letters to the company archive.
Not the child-abuse case.
Not his therapy records.
No trauma museum.
The Sutton archive described the 2020s governance scandal accurately:
Suppressed descendant activation.
Related-party review.
Trust modernization.
