Chapter 9 - THE BLACKWOOD INSIDE THE VANCE FILES

Richard Blackwood had left the family council ten years earlier after losing a succession dispute with my father.
He opened a private wealth-law firm and represented clients who wanted access to family trusts.
Julian hired him secretly four years into our marriage.
Richard knew the terms of my restrictions.
He knew Maya’s trust could not be reached through ordinary marital claims.
He created the forged-guarantee structure, the guardianship proxy, and Argent House.
He insisted he believed I had consented.
His invoices told a different story.
One line read:
Develop pathway despite Eleanor noncooperation.
Another:
Prepare incapacity alternative.
Richard received nine million dollars through Vance entities.
Arthur wanted him arrested before the meeting ended.
Investigators obtained warrants instead.
Richard surrendered after federal prosecutors issued charges for conspiracy, wire fraud, identity theft, and attempted theft from a child’s trust.
His involvement explained Julian’s confidence.
The Vances had not merely guessed that I was a Blackwood heir.
They had purchased a map from someone who knew every lock.
Arthur sat in silence after the arrest.
“I spent my life protecting the family from outsiders,” he said.
“The door opened from inside.”
“Yes.”
Richard’s cooperation came quickly.
He admitted designing the financial structure.
He denied knowing Genevieve would assault Maya.
Evidence supported that distinction.
He knew the plan involved declaring me unstable and transferring custody rights.
He called that “strategic family litigation.”
The prosecutor called it fraud.
Richard revealed another secret.
My voluntary restrictions had never fully removed me from the Blackwood council.
My mother’s trust required my written consent before any permanent suspension.
The paper I signed six years earlier suspended distributions and voting activity, but it could be revoked by one coded request.
The red thread was ceremonial.
The secure phone was the real mechanism.
Julian had spent years trying to obtain control that I could restore with one call.
He knew this after hiring Richard.
That was why he kept Maya close.
That was why he encouraged my isolation but never finalized a divorce earlier.
My supposed poverty protected his access to a dormant fortune.
The corporate restructuring continued.
Vance International sold its private aviation unit, two luxury properties, and Genevieve’s branded division. The proceeds reduced debt.
Core logistics and manufacturing units remained operational under independent management.
Employees kept jobs where the business supported them.
Some executive positions disappeared.
Julian’s personal holdings were frozen only where courts authorized it.
Blackwood Capital did not seize the company for one dollar.
Independent investors led a recapitalization.
Justice did not require turning employees into trophies.
Julian’s trial approached.
Genevieve would testify.
Richard would testify.
The housekeeper would testify.
I would testify.
Maya would not appear live unless absolutely necessary. Her recorded forensic interview and corroborating evidence might make that unnecessary.
Then a gala guest named Theodore Shaw contacted Detective Ellis.
He had been inside the Vance foyer before the ballroom event because Julian invited select investors for drinks.
Theodore had recorded a voice memorandum about business terms while walking through the hall.
The microphone captured Julian and Genevieve arguing behind a door.
Genevieve said:
“I won’t hit a child for your company.”
Julian answered:
“You already have. Tonight you only need Eleanor to see.”
May you like
The prior assaults were not merely tolerated after they happened.
Julian had known before each one.
