Chapter 24 - MOOSE LADY COMES HOME

The evidence custodian returned the doll.
Two years after Ethan opened it.
The seam remained torn.
Police had preserved stuffing separately.
The plastic bundle gone.
No USB.
No license.
Those stayed archived under court procedures.
Ethan held the doll.
“She broken.”
“Yes.”
“Fix?”
I looked at Harrison.
He looked at me.
“No secret pockets,” I said.
Harrison smiled sadly.
“No secret pockets.”
We took Millie to a textile-restoration shop.
Not because she was valuable.
Because Ethan wanted her.
The restorer asked whether we wanted original seam reconstructed invisibly.
I said:
“No.”
“Visible repair?”
“Yes.”
Blue thread.
Small line across the stomach.
Not symbolic enough to be annoying.
Just honest repair.
When the doll came home, Ethan inspected it.
“Scar.”
Harrison said:
“Yeah.”
“Like Daddy?”
Harrison blinked.
“Sort of.”
Ethan hugged the doll.
Then asked:
“Can put candy inside?”
“No,” both of us said.
He laughed.
Good.
The object that once carried terrifying evidence became a toy again.
Not erased.
May you like
Reassigned.
That was healing too.
