Chapter 4

The official documents reached the Vale residence three weeks later on Tuesday morning at 9:04.

By then, my temporary tooth had been replaced with a better restoration.

The bruise had faded from purple to yellow.

My family had not seen me since the assault.

Richard signed for the certified envelope because the courier required an adult signature.

The delivery contained several separately issued documents bundled under court-approved service.

The first was a temporary civil protection order prohibiting Richard from contacting or approaching me.

The second was an emergency asset-preservation order covering accounts connected to the Mercer Vale Trust.

The third was notice that Catherine had been suspended as interim trustee pending a full accounting.

The fourth directed preservation of devices and records connected to the disputed transfers.

The fifth informed the occupants that the Vale residence was trust property and that continued occupancy would be reviewed by the independent fiduciary.

It was not an immediate cinematic eviction.

They would receive notice, a hearing, and an opportunity to contest.

The final document was a civil complaint alleging conversion, fraud, identity misuse, breach of fiduciary duty, and conspiracy.

Madison’s routing digits appeared beside dates and amounts.

The complaint did not declare them guilty.

It told them exactly what they would have to answer.

A process server’s body camera captured Richard reading the first page.

His face reddened.

Catherine took the packet.

Her smile disappeared when she saw the trust-removal notice.

Madison stood behind them holding her phone.

For once, she did not record.

Richard called me in violation of the temporary order twelve minutes later.

I did not answer.

The call was preserved.

At 9:31, Catherine contacted Thomas Harrison’s office.

She asked to speak privately.

He refused and directed her to counsel.

At 10:08, Dr. Julian Harrison attempted to amend his capacity report.

He described it as an informal family consultation, not a medical evaluation.

The original title was:

BENEFICIARY INCAPACITY ASSESSMENT.

At 11:20, Bellweather Bank’s integration compliance team flagged twelve accounts connected to the Vale family.

Because Harrison Mercer had completed the acquisition at midnight Friday, the company now possessed lawful operational access to Bellweather’s institutional records subject to regulatory and privacy controls.

I remained recused.

An independent team found:

Trust distributions routed through Catherine House Consulting.

Payments to Madison Digital Advisory for services never documented.

Richard’s personal debts paid through Vale Strategic Resources.

Transfers from Harrison Mercer’s attempted fake vendors into the same network.

A mortgage application in my name.

A business loan in my name.

An insurance policy listing the Mercer Vale Trust as collateral.

My signatures appeared throughout.

None were mine.

The Midnight Acquisition did not give me secret power.

It gave auditors records my family assumed would remain inside a struggling bank long enough to be erased.

They had expected the acquisition to fail after anonymous fraud allegations damaged my credibility.

Instead, I disclosed the conflict before closing.

The deal proceeded without me.

The records survived.

At 2:15, Detective Martinez called.

Cloud technicians recovered Madison’s deleted video.

It began with her selfie.

Richard’s fist appeared in the background.

My head snapped sideways.

Blood.

Catherine’s lemon water.

The floor rag.

Every sentence.

The recording continued after I left.

Richard said, “She didn’t swing.”

Catherine answered, “Then we use abandonment and theft.”

Madison complained, “The blood made the filter flicker.”

Richard asked, “Did the camera get enough?”

Madison said, “Not if she didn’t attack.”

Then a voice came through the phone speaker.

Male.

Distorted.

“Move to Phase Two. She will report to Harrison. The complaint is already inside.”

Madison looked toward the screen.

“What if she tells him about the trust?”

The voice replied:

“She does not know the trust exists.”

The recording ended.

“Do you recognize him?” Detective Martinez asked.

“Not through the distortion.”

“Your father?”

“No.”

“Someone at Harrison Mercer?”

“I don’t know.”

The phrase Phase Two matched language inside the anonymous corporate complaint.

Someone outside my immediate family had coordinated the plan.

The Guillotine had not yet fallen.

The documents were only the rope being measured.
