Chapter 10

Edward Harrison denied everything.
He described Madison as a desperate influencer trading lies for leniency.
His attorneys argued that the distorted phone voice could have been generated.
The private messaging account was registered through an offshore company.
Edward’s device contained no application.
But Bellweather records connected him to the family entities.
Catherine House Consulting received payments from a strategy fund Edward controlled.
Vale Strategic Resources invoiced Harrison Mercer for “shareholder transition analysis.”
Madison Digital Advisory produced social-media narratives criticizing Thomas’s leadership before the acquisition.
The family worked for Edward while pretending to need my salary for rent.
Their demand was not about survival.
It was about obedience.
They needed regular transfers to demonstrate that I accepted Catherine’s authority and considered family funds shared.
Those payments could later be submitted as evidence that I had ratified the arrangement.
My refusal threatened both money and narrative.
Thomas testified before the independent board committee.
He admitted knowing Edward opposed my trust transfer.
He did not know about the assault plan.
The committee removed Edward from corporate positions.
The board referred evidence to prosecutors.
Thomas resigned as executive chair but remained a director temporarily during transition.
Some shareholders blamed me for destabilizing the company.
I had not placed fake vendors inside the acquisition.
Still, scandal gathers around whoever exposes it.
Harrison Mercer’s stock value fell.
Employees feared layoffs.
Competitors attacked.
Thomas issued no heroic statement.
He said:
“The company failed because governance systems trusted familiar names more than verified conduct. Correcting that failure will be costly. Refusing to correct it would be more costly.”
For once, an institution named its own role.
I returned to work after the internal investigation cleared me.
Not to acquisitions immediately.
I joined the independent remediation team under strict conflict controls.
My first assignment was not my family’s case.
That separation mattered.
The Mercer Vale Trust transferred on my thirtieth birthday.
I became beneficiary and co-trustee alongside an independent professional.
I did not personally control Harrison Mercer.
The eighteen-percent voting block had governance rights subject to the trust.
I could vote through established procedures.
I could not treat corporate assets like a checking account.
The family house proceeds remained under recovery review.
My salary still came from work.
My first purchase after the transfer was a permanent dental implant.
I paid from my ordinary medical account.
The new tooth looked almost identical to the old one.
Dr. Ortiz handed me a mirror.
“How does it feel?”
“Foreign.”
“That changes.”
I touched it with my tongue.
For months, the gap had reminded me of Richard.
May you like
The replacement did not erase him.
It stopped giving the injury permanent ownership of my face.
