The lake property contained the final evidence Jasper referenced.
Miles and I entered with a forensic team after the court confirmed trust ownership.
The cabin sat near frozen water beneath tall pines.
Jasper loved it there.
We took the children every summer until treatment schedules made travel difficult.
Frederick called it the Beaumont retreat.
Inside a locked storage room beneath the stairs, we found:
Company backup drives.
Original maintenance reports.
Loan records.
Correspondence.
A metal box containing Jasper’s personal journals.
The safe-deposit key photograph in the folder corresponded to a bank box holding certified copies.
Jasper had duplicated everything.
One drive contained video from a company garage.
Frederick stood beside Unit 47 before the crash.
A mechanic pointed toward the brake assembly.
Audio was faint but recoverable.
Mechanic:
“It cannot leave.”
Frederick:
“The shipment goes.”
Mechanic:
“If the driver loses pressure—”
Frederick:
“Then he uses the emergency system.”
Samuel entered.
Frederick handed him a tablet.
“Change the status.”
The footage did not show Frederick intending a crash.
It showed knowingly releasing unsafe equipment.
Paul Keller’s injury and Jasper’s exposure followed.
Prosecutors added charges based on reckless conduct and records falsification.
Another file surprised me more.
A recording of Jasper and Avery at the cabin.
Avery:
“You think Hazel will keep the company?”
Jasper:
“She may decide the company should not remain in the family.”
Avery:
“Then she gets nothing.”
Jasper:
“You do not decide that.”
Avery:
“You were dying in a rented hospital bed while we protected everything.”
Jasper:
“You protected your income.”
Avery:
“We protected the name.”
Jasper:
“Names do not drive trucks.”
Avery lowered her voice.
“If Hazel refuses to cooperate, Frederick will challenge Toby.”
“On what basis?”
“We both know the timing of the pregnancy.”
I stopped the recording.
Toby had been conceived before Jasper and I married.
Frederick and Avery had always treated that as evidence of my supposed manipulation.
Jasper had never questioned paternity.
DNA was unnecessary for us.
But Avery planned to weaponize dates.
Jasper responded:
“Toby is my son biologically, legally, and in every way that matters. If you attack him, the deposition and audit release automatically.”
He had built triggers.
Miles received authority to release evidence if his parents challenged the children, removed us from the home, or interfered with trust assets.
