The second trial contained spreadsheets instead of bruises.
It was no less damaging.
Keith Nolan testified that Greg ordered unauthorized pest releases.
Paul Mercer testified after entering his own plea agreement.
He admitted accepting money to accelerate inspections and write exaggerated reports.
Dale Foster admitted damaging an electrical system at one evacuated property after Greg said the building needed another loss event.
None of them were clean witnesses.
All had motives to reduce their sentences.
The prosecution built the case around records.
Marked colony purchases.
Messages.
Bank transfers.
Inspection timing.
Shell LLC ownership.
Insurance claims.
Property-sale contracts.
Emma’s RESPONSE CYCLE spreadsheet was admitted only after authentication through company records.
Her commentary was limited where hearsay rules required.
The facts stood without turning her notebook into testimony from the grave.
Greg’s defense argued Miller Property Recovery had grown through aggressive but legitimate distress investing.
Some acquisitions were legitimate.
The prosecution did not challenge all of them.
Seven were central.
Three pest releases proven.
Two fires linked to deliberate unsafe acts.
One bribed condemnation.
Multiple false invoices.
The jury convicted Greg of conspiracy, wire fraud, insurance fraud, commercial bribery, environmental violations, obstruction, and related property crimes.
He was acquitted of one arson count involving the third fire because investigators could not establish deliberate ignition.
Again, precision.
Keith received a reduced but real prison sentence after cooperation.
Paul lost public office permanently and received incarceration and restitution obligations.
Dale received a longer sentence for the fire he helped cause, reduced by substantial assistance.
Greg received the longest sentence because he organized the scheme and profited most.
Civil forfeiture reached shell-company assets.
Tenant restitution funds were created.
Not everyone recovered everything.
Some families had already moved away.
Some records were incomplete.
The receiver sold certain properties and returned others to independent ownership.
Miller Property Recovery survived as a smaller employee-owned remediation company under a new name.
Workers voted for it.
No Miller family control.
No pest-releasing research program.
I attended only the days necessary for medical testimony in the separate case.
I was not part of the property trial.
That boundary mattered.
Sarah followed the news more than I did.
“You don’t want to know?”
“I want Leo safe.”
“You can want both.”
She was right.
But physicians can become addicted to narrative closure.
I resisted.
Emma’s homicide investigation still lacked one final piece.
Then Frank Bell contacted Detective Ward again.
He had remembered something.
The night after Emma died, Greg gave him a plastic bag containing a pair of wire cutters and said:
“Get rid of these with the workshop debris.”
Frank kept them.
