Vivian completed the custodial portion of her sentence and moved into her condo under supervision.
No family mansion.
No dramatic poverty.
She still had assets.
Retirement income.
Harcourt Holdings interest.
Personal investments reduced by legal costs and civil payments.
Consequences.
Not ruin.
She requested contact with Callum.
He agreed once.
Public place.
No Milo.
She apologized badly.
“I’m sorry everything got out of hand.”
Callum said:
“That is not an apology.”
Then:
“I’m sorry I gave him something I should not have.”

Then:
“I’m sorry I tried to use what happened to force Elara into selling.”

“Why?”
Vivian looked at him.
“Because I thought if the land deal failed, your father’s last investment would prove I had failed him.”

The emotional engine.
Martin Harcourt had spent years calling the pasture his “legacy project.”
After he died, Vivian inherited the unresolved debt and his obsession.
If Oakline bought it at a high price, she could say Martin had been right.
If she refinanced or sold smaller, the dream shrank.
She confused preserving his ego with preserving family.
