Daniel entered guilty pleas on financial fraud, theft, obstruction, conspiracy to commit property fraud, and conduct connected to disabling the kitchen alarm.
Prosecutors did not charge him with attempting to murder me because evidence did not establish that intent.
He admitted knowing Vanessa planned coercion.
He admitted concealing the danger.
He admitted taking company money.
His cooperation helped expose the Calder network.
That reduced his sentence.
It did not erase prison.
At sentencing, Daniel faced me.
“I kept waiting for a moment when fixing everything would become easier than telling you.”
I said nothing.
“It never did.”
The judge asked whether he understood the harm created by maintenance mode.
“Yes.”
“What was the harm?”
“I turned off the system that would have warned my mother while someone opened a gas line in her house.”
Plain language.
No weakness.
No love.
No complexity large enough to hide the switch.
He received a substantial sentence, followed by supervised release and restitution.
Sentinel terminated him.

Those facts could coexist.
I visited him once during the first year.

“No.”
“How do you know?”

“Do you still love me?”
“Yes.”
His face broke.
“Then why can’t you forgive me?”
“Love answers what I feel. Forgiveness answers what I can safely release. They are not the same question.”
He nodded slowly.
“I’m learning.”
