Chapter 21 - NERIAH AT EIGHTEEN

At eighteen, Neriah attended her first adult trust meeting.

Baxter did not attend.

Progress.

The trustee explained:

“You do not own fourteen percent of Sutton Ridge.”

Neriah looked disappointed.

“Can I fire CEO?”

“No.”

“Can I make all apartments allow dogs?”

“No.”

“Can I get free apartment?”

“No automatic entitlement.”

“Then this trust is mostly emails?”

“Yes.”

She looked at me.

“Mom caused decades of drama for emails.”

I said:

“Governance emails.”

“Worse.”

Eliana would have loved her.

Neriah studied investigative journalism.

Everyone assumed because she had “exposed” Prisca at six.

She hated that interpretation.

“I like reporting.”

Good.

Trauma does not own every career.

She used lawful trust distributions for college.

Worked internships.

Earned income.

Bought an absurdly expensive camera using a combination of both.

No shame.
