My sister’s adoption agency paused her application voluntarily after she disclosed the incident.
Not because my family email reached them this time.
She disclosed.
That mattered.
She told the agency:
I participated in a coercive family situation involving my nephew. I blocked his mother from reaching him because I believed my mother was making a point. I did not know she would release him above fire, but I exercised poor judgment and am in counseling.
The agency required:
Updated home study.
Therapist letter after treatment.
Additional references.
Review of family-boundary plan.
Reasonable.
No guarantee of approval.
Then my sister called me through counsel? We had no direct contact yet. She sent a message through mediator:
“I’m not asking you to help my adoption application.”
Good.
Then:
“I wanted you to know I told them everything.”
I did not respond.
Weeks later, when our three-month voluntary separation ended, we had another mediated conversation.
I asked:
“Do you still want to be a mother?”
She laughed through tears.
“Yes.”
“Do you think that means Marcellus should give you practice?”
“No.”
Immediate.
Good.
Then:
“Do you understand why I may never let you be alone with him?”
“Yes.”
That answer mattered more than promises.
Then she said:
“If that changes someday, it has to be because you decide, not because Mom says enough time passed.”
