That decision stopped the scheduled closing.
Ashford Coastal’s lenders responded by demanding a restructuring plan.
The company entered supervised negotiations.

Employees faced uncertainty.
My father blamed me publicly.
The financial records showed he had concealed debt and overextended the company for years.

No one was sentenced immediately.
No assets were magically transferred to me.
No wedding guests were forced to kneel and apologize.
Several guests submitted statements.
Some claimed they applauded because they believed the fall was staged.

Whether he personally authorized the threatening messages remained under investigation.
Adrian Rook produced partial vendor records under court order.
They showed Meridian maintained a file on me for eleven years.
The first entry was created when I was twenty.
Long before Blake met me.

Long before Penelope’s wedding.
My father’s company had originally paid for the file.
The purpose line read:
HEIR COMPLIANCE AND REPUTATIONAL CONTAINMENT.
The file tracked my relationships, employment, charitable work, and conflicts with Theodore.
It documented which insults made me withdraw.
Which family events I still attended.
Which friends I trusted.
Someone had spent more than a decade learning how to isolate me without making the isolation look forced.
Blake arrived at Helena’s office while I read the report.
He wore his ring.

“Did my father order all of this?” I asked.
“Rook claims the original contract came through an intermediary.”
“Who?”
“The records use initials.”
“What initials?”
