Chapter 10 - SIMON VALE

Simon Vale was not related to the Ashfords.
He had been Evelyn’s private accountant before joining Campbell Holdings years later.
I had met him only twice.
He was courteous, quiet, and almost invisible in rooms dominated by wealthier people.
Blake trusted him because Simon had managed his mother’s estate without leaking a single detail.
My grandmother trusted him because he understood Theodore’s finances better than Theodore realized.
Simon had never told either of us about the connection.
When investigators questioned him again, he admitted serving as successor trustee under Evelyn’s memorandum.
“Why did you remain silent?” Helena asked.
“The provision was dormant unless a triggering event occurred.”
“A forged proxy is a triggering event.”
“I did not know the proxy existed until after the wedding.”
“Your credentials downloaded Blake’s signature.”
“My credentials were compromised.”
“By whom?”
“I do not know.”
Blake’s expression remained unreadable.
“Did you know Mara was Evelyn’s granddaughter when you began working for me?”
“Yes.”
“Did you tell me?”
“No.”
“Why?”
“Because your relationship with Mara had not begun, and client confidentiality survived Evelyn’s death.”
“Did you tell anyone at Ashford Coastal that Mara and I were married?”
“No.”
“Did you know Cross Meridian was preparing a refinancing?”
“Yes.”
“Did you review it as trustee?”
“I requested documents. Theodore refused.”
Simon produced correspondence proving he had challenged the transaction privately.
He also revealed that the trust’s protective provision required three factual findings before suspension:
A disputed signature.
A material transaction.
And credible evidence of coercion or concealment.
The fountain video, group chat, and forged proxy likely satisfied the threshold for temporary action.
Simon signed notice suspending the proxy’s effect pending independent review.
Cross Meridian could challenge the action in court.
The financing did not disappear.
It froze.
My father called Simon’s action theft.
He filed an emergency lawsuit claiming Evelyn lacked authority to impose the restriction.
The court scheduled a hearing.
No judge instantly handed me control of Ashford Coastal.
No billionaire husband erased my father’s debt.
The process began with filings, sworn declarations, forensic reports, and temporary orders.
Meanwhile, Campbell’s internal investigation found that Simon’s credentials had been copied through a malicious link sent from an account appearing to belong to Blake’s tax attorney.
Simon opened the link while traveling.
The intrusion gave access to a limited document repository, including the Royal Palms disclosure containing Blake’s signature.
It did not reveal who sent it.
The source used infrastructure connected to a private intelligence vendor called Meridian Strategic Advisory.
Cross Meridian denied any relationship to the vendor.
Julian’s senior partner denied recognizing the name.
Simon did.
Evelyn had mentioned Meridian Strategic in her old records.
According to her notes, the company specialized in “reputation containment” for families facing financial disputes.
It had helped Theodore suppress questions about the old loans.
The wedding trap was not merely a cruel family improvisation.
May you like
Someone had used an old system.
A system designed to turn humiliation into leverage and leverage into signatures.
