Chapter 26 - BUILDING SOMETHING NEW

The heritage workshop reopened the following spring.
Not as Dad’s museum.
Working space.
Three craftspeople.
Two apprentices.
Small showroom.
Custom furniture.
Restoration.
Classes once a month.
I brought Romy on opening day.
She wore safety glasses much too large for her face.
“Can I make horse?”
“Not today.”
“Why?”
“Because you are six.”
“Grandpa let me.”
“Grandpa violated many safety standards.”
She laughed.
We made a small wooden star instead.
She sanded one edge for twenty minutes.
Then got bored.
Normal child.
My brother attended the opening as co-owner.
He stayed across the room.
Romy saw him.
Moved closer to me.
He noticed.
Did not approach.
Good.
Later he emailed:
I’m glad she still has the horse.
I replied:
She does.
Nothing more.
