Heather entered court without makeup? Not needed.
She wore navy.
Professional.
No villain costume.
The prosecution started with the bracelet.
Hidden-camera video.
Heather enters guest room.
Takes bracelet from pocket.
Places in Louisa’s bag.
Searches toys.
No audio needed to understand.
Then Lydia.
Her own mother.
“Did you know Heather planted the bracelet?”
“No.”
“What did Heather tell you?”
“She said she found it.”
“What did you do?”
“I allowed Heather to shave Louisa.”
“Why?”
“I thought she had stolen.”
“Did stealing justify that?”
“No.”
“What next?”
“I tied Louisa outside.”
“Why?”
“To frighten her into admitting where she put something.”
There.
“What something?”
“Adam’s key.”
“Who told you she had it?”
“Heather.”
The prosecutor:
“So by the time you tied Louisa outside, was the punishment only about the bracelet?”
Lydia cried.
“No.”
That connected.
Heather’s lawyer attacked Lydia.
“You received a plea benefit?”
“Yes.”
“You want reduced sentence?”
“Yes.”
“So you have incentive.”
“Yes.”
Good.
Corroboration needed.
Exterior video.
Forensic interview.
Heather messages.
Then me.
I testified about Louisa finding key at breakfast.
Heather’s reaction.
My camera.
My arrival.
My own violence.
Defense emphasized retaliation.
“Ms. Miller, you pinned a sixty-seven-year-old man to the ground and shaved his head?”
“Yes.”
“You wanted revenge?”
“At that moment, yes.”
“You were enraged at this family?”
“Yes.”
“You later leaked evidence?”
“Yes.”
“You want Heather convicted?”
“I want the jury to decide from evidence.”
“Do you hate her?”
I paused.
“I hate what she did. I do not know what word describes her to me now.”
No performance.
Then:
“You never personally saw Heather shave Louisa.”
“No.”
“Lydia could be blaming Heather.”
“Yes.”
“You never saw Heather tell Lydia to bind Louisa.”
“No.”
Correct.
Then forensic child interview.
Louisa:
“Aunt Heather cut my hair.”
“Grandma tied.”
“Aunt Heather said key.”
Simple.
The pediatric forensic expert explained developmental limits.
No coaching detected? They cannot definitively say. Better: interview followed non-leading protocol.
Then the silver key.
Archive.
Fake deferral.
Heather metadata.
Prosecution framed motive narrowly:
Not theft of entire company.
Preservation of false proxy and concealment of documents.
That precision helped.
Heather’s attorney argued:
Financial documents cannot prove child abuse intent.
True.
Then prosecution introduced Heather’s own draft:
VIDEO PLAN.
Find bracelet.
Show Mom.
Get Louisa to admit.
Ask key.
Record.
If Joanna explodes, keep recording.
The courtroom changed.
Heather had planned a confrontation involving false evidence and key retrieval.
The question remaining:
Did she anticipate the haircut?
No written plan.
Did she choose it in anger?
She admitted later.
Still abuse.
Financial motive influenced context either way.
Trial moved toward her testimony.
Against counsel advice? Her choice.
