Chapter 7 - THE DOCTOR WHO NEVER MET ME
Dr. Malcolm Voss had served as Cole Meridian’s occupational-health consultant for four years.
He reviewed employee medical-clearance forms and advised the company on emergency-product compliance.
He had never examined me.
Still, his report described my sleep habits, anxiety history, medication use, and marriage.
Most of the details came from therapy I attended after a miscarriage eight years earlier.
Only Nolan, my mother, and my therapist knew them.
My therapist had released nothing.
Nolan had told no one beyond broad references.
Marjorie admitted discussing my history with Voss during two private meetings.
“He said the company needed to know whether stress affected your judgment,” she told investigators.
“You gave a corporate consultant my therapy information?” I asked during our first mediated legal meeting.
My mother sat behind a glass partition because the protective order prohibited direct contact.
“I believed it was confidential.”
“Confidential from whom?”
She looked down.
“You.”
Voss used those details to produce a false medical narrative.
He wrote that I suffered episodes of paranoia around finances.
In reality, my concerns involved vendor payments that later proved fraudulent.
He described my sleep aid as evidence of unstable medication use.
I used it fewer than five times a year.
He said Harper’s birthday presented a “high-risk domestic stressor” likely to trigger poor judgment.
The report was dated before the party.
That made it more than a post-event frame.
They had prepared a medical explanation in advance.
Voss denied knowing about the poisoned drink.
He claimed Sabrina requested only corporate continuity analysis.
Then detectives searched his office.
They found Edward’s clonidine prescription history.
Voss was the doctor who prescribed it.
The original prescription had been modest.
Six months later, Voss issued a larger quantity without an appointment, citing travel needs.
Edward never traveled.
Pharmacy surveillance showed Sabrina collecting the refill.
“Did Voss supply the drug for the plan?” Nolan asked.
“Evidence suggests he enabled access,” Ortiz said. “Intent is still being established.”
Voss’s financial records showed payments from Cedar Finch Consulting.
The same shell company used in Sabrina’s vendor scheme.
He received $118,000 in consulting fees.
No legitimate work supported most of it.
Federal investigators joined the financial case because the merger, wire transfers, and insurance application crossed state lines.
The poisoning remained primarily a state prosecution.
Evidence moved between agencies under court supervision.
Sabrina was arrested after the recovered laundry-room video and toxicology results were presented to a grand jury.
She faced charges including intentional poisoning, aggravated child endangerment, evidence tampering, identity theft, and conspiracy.
She pleaded not guilty.
Edward was arrested for conspiracy, fraud, obstruction, and providing medication for unlawful use.
Marjorie accepted a cooperation agreement after admitting her role.
She remained under house arrest and no-contact restrictions.
Voss lost his medical license temporarily pending disciplinary proceedings and was charged with fraud, unlawful prescribing, falsification, and conspiracy.
The private-equity buyer withdrew from the merger.
Cole Meridian’s lenders demanded an independent receiver.
The company could survive operationally, but only if ownership control was separated from my family during the investigation.
I agreed.
Sabrina called the receivership proof that I had always wanted to destroy her career.
Her attorney released a statement claiming I fabricated the poisoning to seize Cole Meridian.
Then Sabrina filed her own accusation.
She claimed Nolan and I had drugged Harper to frame her.
Her evidence was a handwritten note found inside Edward’s house.
It read:
Use Harper’s cup. Sabrina will be blamed.
The handwriting looked like mine.

For the first time since the pantry footage was restored, Sabrina had produced evidence that did not immediately collapse.
