Chapter 21 - CORMAC AT EIGHTEEN

Cormac’s first beneficiary meeting disappointed him.
“So I don’t own nine percent of the company?”
“No.”
“Can I fire anyone?”
“No.”
“Free apartment?”
“No.”
“This is terrible.”
The trustee smiled.
“You have economic interests and protected consultation rights governed under the trust.”
“Paperwork.”
“Yes.”
Cormac looked at me.
“Grandma abused me over paperwork.”
I corrected gently.
“She abused you because she wanted control. Paperwork was one tool.”
He nodded.
“Good distinction.”
He studied veterinary medicine.
Of course everyone tried to connect it to the kennel.
No.
He liked animals.
He had always liked animals.
His stuffed dog predated Clarice’s cage.
His golden retriever Moose did not turn trauma into destiny.
Cormac became a veterinarian because biology fascinated him and animals did not pretend silence was consent.
