Seven families agreed to interviews.
That mattered.
We did not assume their stories from initials.
Three had chosen residential care voluntarily and remained satisfied.
Two used Harrow Mobility equipment but never entered St. Alden.
One withdrew after deciding home therapy was better.
One mother described something that sounded painfully familiar.
“They kept saying my daughter was too attached to her power chair.”
Her daughter had cerebral palsy.
Did anyone remove it?
“No.”
Did anyone threaten her?
“No.”
Did she feel pressured?
“Yes.”
Important difference.
Another father said the financial coordinator emphasized what his child’s settlement could “unlock” at the facility.
Uncomfortable.
Not necessarily illegal.
The state regulator found a cultural problem:
Sales language had seeped into care planning.
Children became “high-value transitions.”
Trusts became “funding capacity.”
Facilities became “conversion opportunities.”
That language came from Harrow Family Care Development.
Agatha’s creation.
St. Alden terminated its management consulting agreement with the family office immediately.
Harrow Mobility barred sales staff from participating in clinical placement recommendations.
Good.
Systems changed before trials ended.
The pipeline did not prove eight families were victims.
It proved the company needed a wall between sales and care.
Then one former financial analyst provided investigators with an email chain.
Agatha:
Merrick is the anchor case for the accessibility expansion. Get him committed before Q4.
Analyst:
Committed financially or admitted?
Agatha:
Both.
My hands shook when I read it.
Emmett was copied.
He replied:
We do not have Cecily.
Agatha:
You have parental authority.
Emmett:
Not for three years.
Agatha:
Thirty days is enough to establish direction.
There.
He had pushed back.
Not enough.
Then:
Emmett:
No capital contribution without trustee review.
Agatha:
Let me handle trustee.
That mattered too.
Emmett was not agreeing to every piece.
He still allowed the placement.
The truth had edges.
At the end of the chain, one line from Agatha:
If Cecily sees the full economics, she will make this about conflict.
She was right.
It was a conflict.
That was the point.
Medical decisions involving a child should become about conflict when the person recommending them profits.
The board requested Emmett appear for sworn internal testimony.
His lawyer suggested he resign first.
He refused.
“I need to answer.”

That did not erase anything.
But for the first time, he was walking toward consequences without waiting for his mother to tell him where to stand.
